Even things such as hard-as-nails Russian henchmen return. James Moran, Lucas Roche Writer: If you’re interested in watching a battle between cockneys and zombies, this is the movie for you. Mike Hodges screenplay , Ted Lewis novel Writer: I have to admit that I have a soft spot for Guy Ritchie’s mockney gangster films. I really hope RocknRolla makes the money it deserves and gets a wider release in America, it is a film that needs to be seen. A narcissistic, painfully vulnerable, haphazardly philosophical and cheekily insulting pile of flaws and potent observations, Quid is as classic as any of Ritchie’s more beloved characters, and Kebbell’s off-kilter performance rivets the viewer’s attention – whether hilarious or tragic, he is always invariably impossible to ignore and far too interesting to discount.
Its funny, clever, visually stunning and is a perfect example of a man doing things his own way and not succumbing to the pressures of the media. After a relatively slow start, serving mostly to set up the convoluted array of characters and plot points the central Maguffin this time being a ‘lucky’ Russian painting which goes missing the film takes off at the frenzied pace those familiar with Ritchie’s work would expect. Great cinematography as well. I liked it too. I guess that’s the best described movie title since Snakes on a plane.
The film is quite violent, both on and off screen, but it’s also uniformly humorous throughout. I am a bit dismayed to see some of the marketing of this film comparing it to other things like Quentin Tarantino films or Trainspotting.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
If you’re interested in watching a battle between cockneys and zombies, this is the movie for you. It completes the upward curve of scale in Ritchie’s crime films: I wouldn’t change one damn thing. When his brother dies under mysterious circumstances in a car accident, London gangster Jack Carter travels to Newcastle to investigate. He has some of the best lines- most of which you simply don’t expect or at least won’t know what the heck is gonna be said next.
There is a building tension throughout, and a palpable that things are not right. In the end, it is about a fun, gory ride and “Cockneys vs Zombies” sure delivers when it comes to that. Writer-Director Mike Hodges wanted violence with reality and he delivers it with real punch. And now on to Toby Kebbell as junkie Rockstar Johnny Quid, this is a role that if the academy were a little less narrow-minded they would consider supporting actor nod.
It is implied that the sexual freedom brought by the contraceptive pill has benefited men more than women. 720; first time I saw this movie I had difficulty in understanding a lot of the dialogue not just because of the weird accent, but because the actors spoke so damn fast.

I could say more but there are a lot. The style of this movie is unique, full stop. It is an unusual, fascinating, and very powerful depiction. And, to the sutitles the truth, i absolutely loved it!
This, again, is realism at its best. If Shakespeare could have written a gangster movie, “Get Carter” would surely be the one. However, what already bothered me in the trailer really did not sit well with me in the movie too.

His energetic, ultra-contemporary camera work incorporates through a fresh perspective such devices as slow motion, fast motion, and freeze-frame coupled with narration.
Although even some of the serious dialog seems just too unnatural and cliched. Worth several sittings and we could learn alot in Hollywood from this one At the same time, the events, sbutitles particular the action and violence are rather slow but relentless.
Those that are not familiar with Newcastle may also like to note that the place is nowhere near the sea, in case you decide to take a holiday up there and are thinking of packing your trunks!
Ritchie’s directing is as proficient as ever, it moves at a merry old pace and the plot just about stays on the rails. It’s not exhilarating or glamorous, but instead deliberate, relentless, and, above all, cold. First, it’s a movie about zombies and it’s English, so don’t go in expecting some grandiose academy award winners.
It is unrelentingly harsh, gritty, and bleak in showing the nasty world of Carter. Lastly I wanna speak about the lovely Michelle Ryan who plays Katey, the cousinI sorta fell in love with her in this film and loved her fiery attitude as she helped kick some zombie butt.
I liked it too. In fact the entire smokign Bunch” as they are known in the film provide some of its best moments, from a visceral heist scene with some unstoppable Russian heavies which oozes style to a barrelx running sub-plot about Bob’s Tom hardy sexual orientation. I wasn’t particularly swayed too much by this trailer but considering the summer period was almost over and we film lovers now have to survive the cheap horror winter season, Rocknrolla seemed like a nice surprise.
Where our movies normally rely on budgets, this movie works on human talent alone. The best description I can think of is ‘MTV does a crime comedy’, and I honestly don’t think there is anything wrong with that.
